What does the price depend on?

Two websites with five pages can differ in price by a factor of five. The difference comes from these seven points.

  1. Design

Adapting an existing theme is faster than a design made entirely around your brand and customer.

the design is custom, worked out separately for desktop and mobile.

  2. Number of pages

It is not just the number that counts, but mainly how many different types of page there are.

there are many unique page layouts, such as services, case studies, team and vacancies.

  3. Copy and images

Do you supply the copy and photos yourself, or do they need to be written and made?

copy, photography or video are arranged by the builder.

  4. Features and integrations

Online booking, payments, a newsletter or an integration with your accounting software or CRM.

the site has to talk to other systems.

  5. Webshop

The number of products, variants, payment methods and the stock integration determine the size.

you have many products, variants or your own shipping rules.

  6. Languages

Every extra language means extra copy, extra pages and extra checking.

the site needs more than one language.

  7. Who builds it

A freelancer, a small agency or a large agency. According to Trustoo, web designers' hourly rates average between €65 and €105.

a larger team with strategy, design and project management is involved.

Who builds it

The amounts above are averages across all providers. Who builds your site makes a big difference. An overview by Searchlab gives €800 to €3,000 for a standard business site from a freelance web designer. At a web agency, according to the same source, a starter website begins at €2,000 to €4,000, and a professional SME website costs €4,000 to €8,000.2

Neither is better by definition. A freelancer is often faster and cheaper, an agency has more specialists. Above all, check what is and is not included in the price.

Costs after launch

A website still costs money once it is finished. Expect these recurring items:

ItemIndicationSource
Domain name€10 to €20 per yearFinom3
Hosting€5 to €50 per monthFinom3
Maintenance and updates€50 to €200 per monthFinom3
Everything together per year€160 to well over €1,000Trustoo1

Skipping maintenance looks like a saving, but a site with outdated plugins is vulnerable and can quietly break after an update.

How Ekkora prices

Every project is different. That is why we do not quote a starting price that turns out to be wrong later. This is how it works instead:

First a callIn 30 minutes we discuss what the site needs to do and who it is for.
Then a fixed priceYou get one amount for design and build. No hourly billing.
Testing is includedThe site only goes live once all eight checks pass. You get the report.
Everything stays yoursThe code and domain are yours. Maintenance is optional and can be cancelled monthly.

Comparing quotes: six questions

Quotes often look nothing alike. Ask every provider the same six questions, and you can compare them side by side.

  1. Is this a fixed price or an estimate in hours? With an estimate, you carry the risk if it overruns.
  2. Is the design custom or an adapted theme? Both are fine, as long as you know what you are buying.
  3. Will the site be tested, and do I get the report?Ask which browsers, screen sizes and forms.
  4. Who owns the code and the domain? Can you take your site to another provider if you want to?
  5. What does the site cost per year after launch?Hosting, maintenance, licences and updates added together.
  6. What happens with an update or an outage?Who fixes it, how quickly, and what does that cost?

Questions

Why do quotes differ so much?
Because providers deliver different things under the same word. One "website" is an adapted theme, another is a custom design with copy, integrations and tests. The six questions above make the difference visible.
Is a cheap website a bad choice?
Not necessarily. For a starting business, a simple site on a standard theme can be exactly right. It gets expensive when the site cannot grow with you later, or when nobody notices that the contact form is broken.
Can I start small and expand later?
Yes, if the foundation is built for it. When you ask for a quote, ask how expanding works and what an extra page or feature will cost later.
